Registration for our German Courses in Sommer term 2026

The study-accompanying courses in German as a foreign language are aimed at the following target groups – free of charge:

• international programme and exchange students (e.g. Erasmus+) or students from partner universities
• international regular students in German-language Bachelor's and Master's programmes (with the aim of obtaining a degree)
• international regular students in English-language Master's programmes
• international PhD students of the RUB (enrolled)
  international staff of the RUB (e.g. employees in technology and administration, postdocs, professors)

In addition, the following target groups can take part in the courses offered by the Department for German as a Foreign Language for a fee:
 

• international PhD-students of the RUB (not enrolled)
• visiting scholars (not employed by the RUB)
• family members of current RUB employees and visiting scholars (e.g. spouses or partners)

It is essential for international programme and exchange students to improve their general language skills. Accordingly, the focus is on attending general language courses, especially at the lower levels of the GeR. German language skills are often needed for everyday university life so that they can also be used in the sense of university and social multilingualism and thus develop an even stronger bond with the university and the region.

For international regular students in English-language Master's programmes, communication in everyday university and daily life is even more important. German language skills are necessary to successfully cope with everyday (university) life, which is of great importance for social well-being, also with regard to a later doctorate.

International regular students in German-language Bachelor's and Master's programmes can improve their German language skills while studying. Through specific course offerings, especially in the area of academic language, they are supported in being able to cope with the complex (linguistic) demands of studying in German as a foreign language. The courses are practice-oriented. Language and academic content are closely linked. In addition to general, scientific and technical language courses, the courses offered also include special courses, e.g. on regional studies. In the area of academic language, courses are offered, for example, on listening comprehension of lectures, on speaking and examination discussions, as well as on argumentation or presentation.

Approximately 20-25 courses are offered per semester. Credit points can be earned for each successfully attended course. The number of SWS and credit points is listed in the semester-wide course programme. Attendance is compulsory in all courses. Several partial performances must be achieved during the course. Final examinations do not take place. Details will be announced in the first session.
